Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The less said about Michael Bay’s frenzied idiocy the better, but there is no question his discs consistently provide worthy demo material.
Bay relies on overly saturated color and tweaked contrasts, typically bronzing flesh tones and crushing blacks. That is certainly the case here, but this is accurate to the theatrical presentation. In some ways, aside from the best theaters, this Blu-ray presents cleaner, sharper details. Faces are incredibly rich with texture, especially apparent as the film moves on with sweat, dirt, and pores easily spotted. It happens in every shot, regardless of the actors distance from the camera.
Another DTS-HD 5.1 mix delivers, this time some of the deepest, cleanest bass available on the format. When Optimus Prime jumps over the head of Megatron to save Sam, the sub lights up, becoming increasingly deep with its vibrations as he passes. Likewise, clanging metal and debris during a hectic forest brawl is stunning in its accuracy. A wide front soundstage is remarkable, livening up the few non-explosion scenes with positional work.
